Dr. Sameer Desai - Best Pediatric Orthopedic Surgeon in Pune

His training as a doctor started in June 1995. During his MBBS days his favorite subjects were Anatomy and Surgery. He achieved Gold Medal in these subjects and stood first in Poona University in First Year MBBS. He finished his graduation in Jan 2000 from B J Medical College, Pune. He was interested in Orthopedics from his MBBS days. His uncle Dr. Ashok Desai who is a famous Orthopedic Surgeon in Pune was his inspiration. He got admission for post- graduation in orthopedics at J. J. Hospital and Grant Medical CollegeMumbai. His Post Graduate teacher was Dr. A.N Johari, who is a famous Pediatric Orthopedic Surgeon in Mumbai. His thesis topic was ‘Etiology and Management in Recurrent Clubfoot’. Under his able guidance he decided to take up PediatricOrthopedics as my specialty. After completing his MS in Orthopedics with flying colours he joined Wadia Children’s Hospital, Mumbai as a registrar in PediatricOrthopedics. Working in BMC hospital made him realize there are many children with orthopedic problems who are unable to afford treatment because of financial problems.

 He also got to see and treat difficult and complicated cases during this period. He followed it up with a fellowship in Pediatric Orthopedics in Seoul, Korea with Professor H.R Song and Prof Lee. This was followed by a fellowship in Cerebral Palsy and Gait Laboratory under Prof Kerr Graham at Royal Children’s Hospital, Melbourne, Australia. At these centres he got an opportunity to learn latest techniques in Pediatric Orthopedics. After his return to India he joined as a consultant in Pediatric Orthopedics in some of the leading hospitals in Pune.
