Menstrual disorders are a disruptive problems related to a woman’s just before and during menstruation including heavy bleeding, missed periods to unmanageable mood swings. Usually most women get their periods regularly without much complications. Although other women face physical, emotional symptoms just before and during menstrual cycle due to hormonal imbalances and structural abnormalities in the uterus 

Types of menstrual disorders

There are different types of menstrual disorders which includes: 

  • Premenstrual syndrome (PMS) : PMS is basically an unpleasant and uncomfortable symptom women feel during the cycle. Two out of five women experience symptoms severe enough to disturb their lifestyle. The most common symptoms PMS includes are fluid retention, skin problems like acne, headache, heart palpitations, infections, allergies and psychological problems like depression, anxiety, irritability. 
  • Amenorrhea : It is a condition of absence of menstruation. Primary amenorrhea is a condition when  Menstruation does not begin at puberty. Secondary amenorrhea is a condition when regular periods stop suddenly for more than 3 months. Amenorrhea can cause a medical condition like ovulation abnormality, excessive or strenuous exercise, birth defect, anatomical abnormality or other medical condition.
  • Dysmenorrhea: Women usually experience cramps during periods but if cramps are especially painful and persistent, this is called dysmenorrhea.  
  • Menorrhagia: It is a condition of abnormal heavy and prolonged menstrual bleeding. 

Menstrual disorders should not be avoided and it is advisable to have a regular check up with professionals.
