Dr. Kalpana Panda is Odisha’s first and only formally trained DM in Pediatric Hepatology and a leading Consultant Pediatric Gastroenterologist & Hepatologist at Ankura Hospital, Bhubaneswar. She specializes in diagnosing and managing gastrointestinal, liver, and pancreatic disorders in children and adolescents (from birth to 18 years). Known for her clinical expertise and compassionate approach, Dr. Panda is dedicated to providing the highest standards of care and counseling to both patients and their families.
Dr. Panda completed her MBBS from MKCG Medical College, Berhampur, Odisha, earning a Gold Medal, followed by an MD in Pediatrics from PGIMER, Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital, New Delhi, where she was also awarded a Gold Medal. She worked as a Senior Resident in Pediatric Gastroenterology at PGIMER for three years, gaining extensive experience in gastrointestinal and liver disorders. To further specialize, she completed a three-year DM in Pediatric Hepatology and Liver Transplant (2019–2022) from the Institute of Liver and Biliary Sciences (ILBS), New Delhi — the only dedicated center for pediatric liver diseases in India. During her tenure, she gained expertise in the pre-, peri-, and post-operative care of children undergoing liver transplants and performed a wide range of diagnostic and therapeutic procedures including endoscopy, colonoscopy, sigmoidoscopy, and liver biopsies.
Dr. Panda has a strong research profile, having been awarded the Young Investigator Award 2022 by the European Society of Pediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology, and Nutrition (ESPGHAN), as well as an ICMR travel grant for presenting her work internationally. She has presented her research at prestigious conferences such as ESPGHAN 2022 in Copenhagen, APASL 2022 in Seoul, and AASLD 2022 in Washington DC, and has over 20 publications in national and international journals.
