ZyCoV-D by Zydus Cadila was the first vaccine that had got approval by the Drugs Controller General of India (DCGI) for children. This is a DNA vaccine, which has been approved for usage in 12–17-year-old children.
Another vaccine that gained clearance by the DCGI for usage in children from 12-18 years recently is Bharat Biotech’s Covaxin. Covaxin is India’s first indigenous whole-virion inactivated vaccine developed by Bharat Biotech in collaboration with the Indian Medical Research Council and the National Institute of Virology.
India will begin vaccinating children aged 15-18 years from January 3rd onwards using Covaxin.
